Construction of instrument...
AV Guitars are made with the following scales: 30.72 "32", 34", 35", 36" for the basses with bolt-on or neck-through construction. The guitars are produced un 25.5 ", 27 " or multiscale scale length. The body of the instrument can also be semi-hollow.
Different neck constructions have their pros and cons. Construction type affects strongly the sound of the instrument /bass guitar. Generally speaking, instruments with neck-through body are more difficult to make. Bolt-on necks may be attached to the body by using 4 or 6 bolts. This will add a fast and rawer sound to a bass guitar. Sustain of bolt on neck is good but not as long as on neck-through basses. The neck-through construction is very useful on a fretless bass. Choosing the right type of neck for your bass is crucial.
The optimal construction type depends on the sound that you want and also on your playing style.
These are the two most common ways of attaching the neck into the body. They can be modified further. .
As a compromise between the two options, bolt-on neck can be glued to the body. The neck can also be fixed deep into the body; therefore it is called “deep set neck”. This enables very good access to the highest frets.
With neck-through construction, the sides of the body are attached to the neck piece. In this construction the neck woods are visible as stripes going through the body of the intstrument. The neck can also be covered with a resonant top and back decks depending on your wishes. In this way the instrument reaches very good tonal stability, sustain and sound. Of course I use matching wood for the headstock as well.
A semi-hollow bass has sound cavities in the body or the body has top and back decks with a hollow center. These features bring a bit more acoustic feeling to the instrument. Such instruments have fine overtones, with as long sustain as the average bass guitar with a solid body.
